Is it safe to visit Romania?
Based on several rankings, Romania is generally a safe country. The Global Peace Index, for instance, places us on position 22/163. This particular database is based on domestic and interest conflict, militarization, as well as society and security.
Meanwhile, we are on position 138/163 on the Global Terrorist Database, which certifies that no terrorist attacks have occured here.
Crime rate in Romania is lower than the European average. You can walk on our streets without worrying about potential muggings. Besides, carrying any kind of weapons is forbidden. Except for law enforcement, nobody is allowed to use weapons outside dedicated shooting ranges.
Corruption is, unfortunately, still at a high level. You may encounter situations where authorities propose a “compromise” which would make everyone happy. No matter how good this option may seem, you should refuse and seek legal justification to avoid any problems in the long run.
Need to Know before going on our Vampire and Halloween Trips
- Confirm your passport is valid for 6 months from when you think your trip will end. Don’t get stranded.
- Get comprehensive travel insurance to cover you and your gear. Get insurance that’s right for you and covers your activities in the places you’ll go. Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
- Consider your physical and mental health. Get advice from your doctor if you’re unsure.
- See your doctor or travel clinic 8 weeks before you go for a basic health check
- Check if your medication is legal and available in the places you’re going. Take enough of your prescribed medicines to last the whole trip. Carry copies of your prescription and a letter from your doctor.
- Tell your bank you’re travelling and check if your cards will work. Have several payment options.
Driving in Romania
If you intend to wander off on your own and visit Transylvanian highlights outside of the planned itinerary, you might want to get a rental car. It will help you reach your destinations faster and – if you are lucky – you will find a free parking spot in the vicinity and not have to walk too far.
Pay attention at your surroundings while driving in Romania. Many drivers (especially during rush hours, when traffic is very slow) break the law in order to bypass long lines. Illegal maneuvers they might do include crossing red lights, performing U-turns over continuous lines or engaging in risky overtakes.
In order to avoid the previously mentioned parking problems, you should plan ahead and note the location of the nearest parking lot. This way, you have a backup option in case you don’t find a parking spot next to your destination.
Taxis or Public Transportation?
If you don’t want to rent a car, you have two options to travel around inside our cities. You can either take a taxi or a bus / tram. In Bucharest, we also have a subway system which helps you reach your destinations much faster.
Buses or the subway are usually crowded. Among the people aboard, there might be pickpockets who are waiting for the opportunity to steal your belongings. Always keep your bag or purse within eyesight as this usually discourages them.
Taxis cost more, but they also offer extra privacy. Watch out for drivers who attempt to scam you. Their tactics include circling you around in order to artificially increase the sum on the meter or negotiating the fare upfront and asking for a price larger than what the ride is actually worth.
Pickpockets
You can walk on our streets without having to fear potential muggers. Carrying weapons is illegal in our country for anyone except law enforcement. While you most likely won’t get mugged, you should still look out for pickpockets. These people are using stealth rather than violence and attempt to steal your belongings without you noticing. Their favorite places are buses, trams or the subway, which all have one thing in common: large crowds.
We recommend keeping your belongings within eyesight while you are in crowded places. Furthermore, if you have the possibility, leave the most valuable items in the hotel safe.
According to Romanian laws:
- Always carry photo ID – you should keep the original passport or ID card somewhere safe and carry photocopies with you
- You are prohibited from taking photos of airports, military sites or other secure locations (this includes drones – be careful, as you might have a non-pleasant surprise if you accidentally fly a drone in military airspace)
- Penalties for drug offenses are severe. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, you can face up to 20 years in jail. Authorities are focusing more on finding the dealers rather than the users, but it’s always best to avoid getting in trouble
Travel Insurance
Always get travel insurance before leaving your country. This way, you make sure that you are financially safe even if something unexpected occurs during your travel. We do our best to make sure you have a great journey, free of unpleasant events, but nobody can plan for everything.
For instance, you might require healthcare services. In this case, your medical plan is most likely not valid in our country and you are unlikely to receive free care or subsidized costs. This is where a good insurance company comes in, as they will cover these expenses, allowing you to enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Vampire and Halloween Trips – Prices
One of the most important aspects when booking a Vampire or Halloween itinerary is the price. You should know the costs in our country so you can plan a budget and avoid any financial problems down the line.
The price of a tour depends on its length and the attractions and special events included. If you choose a higher level of accommodation (on some tours, we provide 5* rooms on request), you will have to pay an extra cost.
On average, 7-Days itineraries cost around €1200, while 3-Days Short Breaks can be booked for about €650/person. The exact prices can be found on our website, on each tour page.
Prices for 11-Days Study Trips
Our 11-Days Study Trips are perfect for large groups of students. The longer itinerary means that you can visit more cultural and historical landmarks than in a Vampire or Halloween Tour.
Each group of students must be accompanied by a teacher who acts as the tour leader. This person travels free of charge, while the others will have to pay for their ticket.
- The ‘Transylvania’s Undying Legend’ Study Trip costs €1287 or €1576 for single rooms
- The ‘Dracula Tours for Schools’ itinerary can be booked for €1557 or €1837 for single rooms
How much do 10-Days Halloween trips cost?
Our 10-Days Halloween Tour departs from our neighbors’ capital, Budapest. Discover impressive attractions in Hungary, such as the Tokaj Winery or Szeged City and enjoy the same Transylvanian attractions available in our 7-Days Halloween Tours. Book now for €1790 or €1999 for single rooms.
7-Days Vampire and Halloween Trips
Throughout the year, we organize several 7-Days itineraries, ranging from our Vampire Tour to the Awarded Halloween experience.
- Our Awarded 7-Days Halloween Tour includes up to 3 amazing parties. It departs from Bucharest and it can be booked for €1299 or €1419 for single rooms
- If you want to book our 7-Days Vampire Tour, you should know that it departs on weekly basis, between May and October and it costs €1159
- In July, we organize a discounted edition of our 7-Days tour, departing once per year. Attend the same unique experience at a the special price of €999
- The ‘Best of Romania’ edition of our Vampire tour includes the same itinerary as the original 7-Days tour, complemented by four special dinners and a special show. Book this itinerary for €1181
3-Days Short Breaks
Throughout the year, we organize a 3-Days Vampire Short Break, departing from Cluj-Napoca on customer request. Book it now for €569 or €599 for single rooms and attend special events such as the Ritual of Killing of The Living Dead.
On Halloween, we organize two versions of our 3-Days Short Break. One departs from Cluj-Napoca while the other one begins in Bucharest. Both itineraries include Sighisoara Medieval Citadel, Bran Castle and the parties taking place here and can be booked for €599 or €666 for single rooms.
2-Days Halloween Trips – Prices
The 2-Days Halloween itineraries are designed for people looking for a fun Halloween Party. There are no attractions included. Instead, we trasnfer you to Sighisoara or Bran Village, where you will attend a fun party. Which one depends on the tour of your choice.
- The 2-Days Tour including our Halloween Party in Sighisoara Citadel departs from Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Brasov or Bucharest. You can book it now for €439 or €479 for single rooms.
- The itinerary of the same length focusing on the Halloween Party at Dracula’s Castle departs only from Bucharest and it costs €369 or €399 for single rooms.
Halloween Trips – City Breaks in Transylvania
Our Halloween City Breaks are similar to the 2-Days Halloween Tours. They also focus on either our party in Sighisoara Citadel or the iconic Halloween Party at Bran Castle. The difference between City Breaks and 2-Days Itineraries is that the former do not include transfers. For a City Break you have to arrive in Sighisoara or Bran Village on your own account.
The City Break with Halloween Party in Sighisoara can be booked for €249, while the City Break with Party at Dracula’s Castle costs €259 or €288 for single rooms.
The price of food in Romania
We provide two meals per day: a dinner and a breakfast on our Vampire Tours and Halloween Trips. On some days, the itinerary includes a small window during which you can enjoy lunch on your own account.
For this reason – and if you are not happy with the menu included in the price and decide to order something else, you should know how much meals cost in our country. For that purpose, we refer you to Budget Your Trip, a platform containing a lot of interesting statistics about how much travelers spend in Romania and in several other countries.
While meal prices in Romania can vary, the average cost of food in Romania is lei104 per day. Based on the spending habits of previous travelers, when dining out an average meal in Romania should cost around lei41 per person. Breakfast prices are usually a little cheaper than lunch or dinner. The price of food in sit-down restaurants in Romania is often higher than fast food prices or street food prices.
Budget Your Trip
Transportation Costs
The costs for transportation in our country depends on the means of transport (bus, subway, taxi). Our itineraries provide transfers between the included attractions by car, minibus or coach depending on the size of your group.
Buses and Subway Trains are usually very crowded and you might encounter pickpockets aboard. Keep your belongings within eyesight to avoid unpleasant ‘surprises’. Meanwhile, taxis provide a more intimate atmosphere and they take you to the exact destination rather than to the nearest station. However, you may encounter drivers who attempt to scam foreign customers. They might circle you around to increase the sum on the meter or they will negotiate the fare upfront (usually asking for a sum much larger than what the ride is really worth).
If you need to travel outside cities, you can take the train (but the conditions are not the best and, due to the poor infrastructure, it might be a lot slower than the alternative) or rent a car and drive yourself. It may seem like taking the train is cheaper, but, sometimes, the price difference between the fuel cost and the train tickets makes the car the obvious choice.
How many days do you need in Romania?
We organize several Vampire Tours and Halloween Trips throughout the year, ranging from 1-Day City Breaks to awarded 7-Days Tours or even 11-Days Study Trips. Tour length is important because you will choose your favorite experience based on your time and budget. If you only have a few days available to spend in our country, go on a 3-Days Short Break. We guarantee that you will like the experience so much you will want to come back and go on the complete 7-Days itinerary.
1-Day Halloween City Breaks
The shortest itineraries in our catalog, the 1-Day Halloween City Breaks are designed for people who are already in Sighisoara or Bran Village and wish to attend one of our amazing Halloween Parties.

2-Days Halloween Itineraries in Transylvania
The 2-Days Halloween Tours are similar to 1-Day City Breaks. The only difference is that, on these specific experiences, we also include transfers to Sighisoara or to Bran Village and back. If you want to attend a fun Halloween Party, but you are unable to reach these locations on your own, a 2-Days itinerary is a better idea than a City Break.
Our 2-Days Halloween Tour with Party in Sighisoara departs from Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Sibiu or Brasov. Arrive in Sighisoara, accommodate in a 3* hotel and, in the evening, attend the best Halloween Party in Transylvania. The next morning, we transfer you back to the city you departed from.
Meanwhile, the 2-Days Halloween Tour with party at Bran Castle only departs from Bucharest. Accommodate in a hotel located in the vicinity of the castle, go on a unique night tour of the iconic edifice and then party till morning on the grounds.
